Courageous Advocacy

Throughout our curriculum, we explore stories of people from the past, looking at adversity, and the adventures and achievements of humanity. We learn about the lives of diverse people; from the widely venerated, to the lives of the less well-known who offer us an alternative viewpoint. Our curriculum explores  inequality, religious persecution and racism and in Y6, the children delve deeper into the history of human rights and equality. Our curriculum belongs to and includes every child and enables them to become courageous advocates, for local, national and global issues.

At some point in life we will all face challenges and need support to help us overcome these barriers. We teach our children that it is important to help others regardless of where they come from or what their challenges are. We teach this in many ways; through our work on values, by links to the Bible, other faiths and world views as well as learning about other courageous advocates. We want our children to have confidence to discuss and debate big ideas, to challenge injustice and engage in activities that can bring about change on some level.

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."

                                                                                        (Proverbs 31: 8-9)

Our children are deeply committed to living out our core values of contributing positively to our community and making our world a better place and our fund raising efforts are often organised and led by our House Captains and School Councillors who are always keen to come up with ideas of how we can combine our efforts to support our local and the wider community.  Every year our amazing pupils raise thousands of pounds for their chosen charities, such as Crisis, Genes for Genes, Wade, Comic Relief and the Royal British Legion and they are fiercely proud of their Harvest efforts over the last few years in supporting the work of the Wokingham Food Bank.
We have carried out fundraising to raise awareness of issues and support those working for change, raising almost £5000 since September 2022.
